Why should I hire a professional? Can't I just get a friend or family member to do it for free?Ok. This is such a big deal, I wrote a whole blog post about it, which you can find over HERE. Suffice it to say that you deserve a Professional (as I always say, with a capital P). Someone who has honed their craft and worked on doing ceremonies to perfect the outcome and who has taken courses in business and gotten trained in officiating, and possibly even voice lessons. Not to be all crass and talk about money, but you get what you pay for. You may find it meaningful to choose someone who is close to you, but you might be unintentionally putting a lot of pressure on that person, not to mention that they can become so emotional, they often can't even continue to perform the ceremony. I've seen it. I'm invested in your ceremony, but I'm not THAT invested! I get to know my couples so well I'm often asked afterwards if I AM a friend. Yet I still deliver the goods because that's what you're paying for. You deserve a well-oiled machine of a ceremony that flows smoothly, beautifully, yet still is incredibly personal. I can offer you that.

Will you perform religious ceremonies?Short answer: no. Long answer: I am happy to perform secular and spiritual weddings. I don't discriminate against anyone for their beliefs, but I just don't feel authentic in myself reading First Corinthians, or any other scripture, or reading prayers, etc. I think you deserve to find someone who believes what you believe and will do that for you. You don't deserve someone who will pay you lip service on your wedding day just to make a buck.

Will you perform LGBTQ+ ceremonies?I love to! I am always honored to work with LGBTQ+ couples. I am a proud supporter of Marriage Equality for All. I do not discriminate against anyone for any reason, whether it's race, culture, gender or sexual orientation, or anything else. All are welcome and celebrated.

Will you attend and run the rehearsal?I strongly encourage rehearsals. I think things always go more smoothly if we've had a chance to run through them a few times. That said, I am not always available for them, which is why they are not a routine part of any package. However, if you request one at the time of booking and I am available, I will block that time off on my calendar and you can be assured I will be there. I am happy to work with your coordinator/planner, however, based on my experiences as both a wedding planner and an officiant (not to mention my trust issues!), I would prefer to run the rehearsal myself, so I can be assured we hit the major points properly.

How long is a typical ceremony? The average time of most of my weddings is between 10 and 20 minutes. Anything less than 10 and it begins to feel like we forgot something and anything more than 20 tends to feels like we're just dragging it out. 10-20 minutes is the sweet spot in my experience. But it really depends on the mood, tone, vibe you're going for. 8 minutes and 33 seconds could be just right for you! Or 26 minutes and 47 seconds. The important thing is that we'll work together to find the right words and mix of rituals for you and then, whatever the running time, it'll be great. This question becomes more in depth if you're looking for a time because you're creating a timeline, in which case, contact me and we can go over the logistics to give you a better feel for how things will go down.

What will you wear?I will tailor my outfit choice to the colors and theme of your wedding. If it's casual, then I will be wearing casual attire as well. If you have a themed wedding, I'm excited to work with you to find the right thing! Rest assured I will not show up wearing anything that clashes with your desired look.

Do you file the license or do we?After the ceremony, I will submit your license by mail to the proper jurisdiction. In most counties, I technically have between 10 and 30 days to submit it, but I do this within 3 days of your ceremony. I prefer to do this myself because a) I have trust issues, b) it's one less thing for you to worry about, and c) I want to make sure that it actually gets sent in (have I mentioned I have trust issues?? LOL!). In all seriousness, you have enough on your plate. Let me handle this for you.
